Looking to further your mental health education? Mental Health Coach Training equips you and faith communities to respond compassionately through our evidence-based training to help those in mental distress, lend support, and serve as a mental health resource to their organization. You’ll also learn to properly uphold ethics and confidentiality, and understand confidentiality limits.

 

Our Mental Health Coach Training gives you information, skills, practical scenarios, and actionable steps that guide you toward setting up your Mental Health Coach practice in your community. The online 18-hour course includes 12 hours for Mental Health Coaching and 6 hours per specialty course. Specialization trainings are available in the following areas: Addiction and Behavioral Health Disorders, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Aging and Elder Care, and Trauma. You’ll receive certification at the end of this training.

  • Access to a community map, where you can share your contact details and access other resources in your area.
  • Access to the Mental Health Coach forum, where you can connect with other Mental Health Coaches.

Objectives

You Will Learn:

  • How to recognize signs that someone may be experiencing mental illness, and signs and symptoms of the most common types of mental illness.
  • How mental and behavioral health problems can develop, how to educate others about mental illness, and reduce the stigma.
  • The importance of faith in healing and the unique role faith communities can play in addressing people’s mental health.
  • How to educate people about mental and behavioral health disorders, and reduce the stigma.
  • How you can help the most in your role as a Mental Health Coach.
  • Important ethics, guidelines, and intake procedures for your role.
  • Key skills for coaching, including empathy, active listening, grounding techniques, de-escalation, how to create trust, how to stay safe, and how to keep others safe.
  • How to create a referral network and refer those you coach to mental health professionals.
  • How to support people experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges (and their caregivers and loved ones) as they heal.
  • How to create a successful coaching practice in your church and get your community engaged and involved.
