Getting older isn’t easy! There are many experiences that older people face, such as age-related health conditions or losing loved ones, that are very challenging to mental health. 1 in 9 people over 65 face dementia, and up to 25% of all people in long-term care suffer from depression. 50% goes untreated.
In this 6-hour specialization course for Mental Health Coaches, we share how to support elders and their caregivers. You’ll learn how to support the 1 in 5 adults in your community who provide caregiving in the home, as well as the many others who do it on a professional basis. We share ethical considerations and how to help elders keep autonomy and self-determination in health care decisions. And we’ll share ideas for how to foster resilience in elders, including how to foster storytelling and spirituality to help seniors express what matters to them.
The Mental Health Coach training is a prerequisite for this course.
We also have a CARES program at HHCI. Visit the HHCI website for more information.
