Behavioral health and substance use disorders can significantly impact one’s quality of life, relationships, and overall well-being. These disorders are very common and often go untreated.

 

In this 6-hour specialization course for Mental Health Coaches, you’ll learn the difference between mental and behavioral health. We discuss addiction, not just to substances, but also to shopping, gaming and gambling, and the role the body’s dopamine reward system plays in addiction. We’ll also discuss eating disorders and self harm. And, you’ll learn to guide individuals towards lasting recovery and emotional wellness.

 

The Mental Health Coach training is a prerequisite for this course. 

Objectives

You Will Learn:

  • Recognize: How to recognize the signs of behavioral health distress, as well as the signs of the most common addictions and behavioral health conditions, including substance misuse, self-harm, and eating disorders.
  • How addiction affects the body’s reward, motivation, and memory functions.
  • Refer: Kinds of treatment for behavioral health disorders and how to refer people to professional providers.
  • Relate: Tools for supporting people with behavioral health conditions and their loved ones or caregivers.
  • Restore: How to support people through the recovery process and help restore their lives through faith, hope, and inspiration.
